The Story Behind It: Wings With Popeyes VP of Culinary, Amy Alarcon

After the success of our famous chicken sandwich in 2019, we knew our work in creating the best chicken wasn’t quite over. With more than three years in flavor development, our culinary team worked tirelessly to create the perfect blend of spicy, yet flavorful and unique wings. Whether it be Roasted Garlic Parmesan, Sweet N Spicy, Honey BBQ, or Signature Hot, we’ve found ways to add flavors on top for a variety of tastes our guests are sure to love.

Our now bestselling Wings made their debut to our menu in January2023, with our original and   base Ghost Pepper flavor. As head chef Amy Alarcon stated, “Ghost Pepper has become a heavy hitter in our arsenal of products.” As a result of this launch success ,as well as our Sweet N’ Spicy flavor recently becoming the highest performing product on our menu, the team continued to adapt and develop more Louisiana based flavors, leading to the additional 4wings flavors our menu now has.  

“During the three years of flavor development, we went through many iterations of marination and sauce flavors. We’re excited to finally share what all that work has led to -what we consider the best of our flavor work” said Head Chef, Amy Alarcon.  

Flavors include:

-Ghost Pepper: Marinated in a dry spice blend before they’re hand breaded and fried to a perfect crunch, these Wings are the perfect balance of flavor and fire.

-Sweet ‘N Spicy: Before they’re tossed in a sweet and spicy blend of chili, garlic, and ginger, these crispy Wings are marinated, hand-breaded, and fried up just right. And yup, sweet ‘n spicy is still the perfect pair.

 -Honey BBQ: The tangy tamarind, sweet honey, and smoky molasses flavors on this sauce pair perfectly with that signature Popeyes crispy breading, so that each and every bite brings you all the way down south.

-Roasted Garlic Parmesan: These Wings pair the rich flavors of caramelized garlic and parmesan and asiago cheeses with our crispy Popeyes breading. So, take a buttery bite and bask in all the flavor.

-Signature Hot: Popeyes wouldn’t be from Louisiana if they didn’t have a Cajun hot wing. Tossed in our signature Cajun hot sauce with just a touch of southern sweetness, this flavor is for those who love the heat.
